Off the Shelf: The Busy November

By Sharon Saye on October 26, 2016 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

November is shaping up to be a busy month at the library despite more closings than usual because of the holidays.  The library will open later on Election Day, November 8, so that we can participate in staff training for our new module in our automation system from TLC.  We will open at 1 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m.

The library will also be closed on November 11 for Veteran’s Day, and November 24 - 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Remember even though we are closed, the library’s online services are always available including the WVDELI, Freegal, and Zinio plus three dozen other databases.

Most of our regularly scheduled programs continue in November including The Colorful Yarns on Tuesday, November 1 and 29 at 6:30 p.m. for everyone interested in knitting, crochet or needlepoint and our book groups, Chapter Chat, on November 2 at 12 p.m., and Book Talk on November 16 at 4 p.m.   Members of Chapter Chat are reading “Trigger Warning” by Neil Gaiman, and members of Book Talk are reading “Wishin’ and Hopin’” by Wally Lamb.  Both groups are open to new members just come to the meetings.

Tea & Talk continues on every Monday at 1 p.m.  Members are discussing the drama surrounding the second season of “Poldark” on PBS.  Tea is provided and participants are welcome to bring a bag lunch.

“Mischief Managed” on November 17 celebrates the premiere of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” with special festivities at the library.  There will be craft programs as well as Harry Potter themed-refreshments available all day while supplies last.  Additionally, the West Virginia Raptor Rehabilitation Center will present live owls at 6 p.m.

Teen Programs continue on Monday nights including a Teen Read-a-Thon on November 7, a movie night with “The Legend of Tarzan” on November 21 and Game Night with Ticket to Ride on November 28.
