Off the Shelf: The Final Week of Library Renovations

By Sharon Saye on September 26, 2018 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Renovations are in their last week.  The construction company has just removed the flooring in the hallways and conference room, and the new laminate will be installed this week.  Lighting is mostly done throughout the library although we will be adding some additional lighting in the front of the library and the children’s section beginning in October.

Laptop users have already noticed that there are electrical receptacles under each of the wood tables in the center of the building so that they can recharge while they work.  The computers are back in place next to the Young Adult books so that all our public access computers are up and operating again.  Both self-checkout units will be back operating next week.

The shelving for the music CDs is sitting in a hallway but should return to its regular spot this week; we have thousands of music CDs, so it will take us a little time to reload them.  Boxes are stacked all over the library waiting until we can shift books and return others to their proper place.

For instance, some of the West Virginia collection which is housed in the conference room is now on the shelves that housed the paperbacks which are in boxes.  As soon as the furniture is returned to the conference room, we will have to move those books back and then we can unload the paperback boxes.  It has been a logistical headache as we keep shifting and moving; don’t be surprised if it takes most of October to get everything in place.  So, if you ask for something and we get that deer-in-the-headlight-look, just be patient while we try to remember where we moved it and then moved it again.

The book sale table is currently next to the front door, but it is still going on.  Hopefully, programming will return to normal in November and we are already scheduling the Bridgeport High School Jazz Band for its annual Christmas concert (Dec. 6.)

This has been a long, confusing summer, but the library is much brighter, the carpet modern, and the prospects for programming doubled.  Please stop in and see all the changes.
