Off the Shelf: The November Edition of Bookpage is a Must Have

Even though October seems to be unseasonably warm, the calendar is still moving relentlessly forward.  For all of those readers who like to get books or buy books for friends and family, the November edition of “BookPage” is a definite must.  “BookPage” is a regular monthly handout provided free at the library.  It includes reviews, interviews, columns, departments, and feature articles on that month’s new books.
          
The November issue also includes a Holiday Catalog Bonus with 14 pages of gift ideas for book lovers.  This section ranges from Fiction to Cookbooks with pages on Children’s, Teens, Gifts, Biographies, Dogs, Nonfiction, Audiobooks and Christmas books.   The books recommended range from Patricia Cornwall’s “Flesh and Blood” to Nora Robert’s “Blood Magick,” from Clive Cussler’s “Havana Storm,” to  Wil S. Hylton’s “Vanished: The Sixty-Year search for the Missing Men of World War II.”   There are cookbooks such as Mark Bittman’s “How to Cook Everything Fast” to Mario Batali’s “America Farm to Table” to “Will It Waffle?”  Nonfiction ranges from “Cultivating Garden Style” to “Really Important Stuff My Dog Taught Me” to “A Season to Remember” by Carson Tinker. 
 
For young adults, the recommendations include James Frey’s “Endgame: The Calling,” Brandon Sanderson’s “The Rithmatist,” James Patterson’s Witch & Wizard: The Lost,” and Bella Thorne’s “Autumn Falls.”
 
Even if you aren’t a book giver, the regular part of this issue of “BookPage” offers a cover story on “Rock “n” Roll Revival with section on five books on the artists and songs that topped the charts.  These books include “Jerry Lee Lewis: His Own Story,” “Respect: A The Life of Aretha Franklin,” “The Universal Tone: Bringing My Story to Light” by Carlos Santana, “The Beatles Lyrics” and “The History of Rock ‘n’ Roll in Ten Songs.” 
 
BookPage also includes 68 book reviews of such popular items as “Revival” by Stephen King, “First Impressions” by Charlie Lovett, “Let Me Be Frank with You,” by Richard Ford, “The Secret History of Wonder Woman” by Jill Lepore, “Just Mercy” by Bryan Stevenson, “Talon” by Julie Kagawa and “Absolutely Truly” by Heather Vogel Frederick.
