City's FREE Fitness in the Park Series Starts Saturday

The City of Bridgeport's brand new Fitness in the Park series begins Saturday, May 14 and residents are invited to participate free of charge. The classes will run 9-10 a.m. most Saturdays through Aug. 27. 
 
Kicking off the series is a May 14 “Bootcamp,” taught by Melissa Romano. Afton Aman will teach Ripped on May 21. There will be no class May 28, but June will feature a full slate. 
 
Jonathan Groves of Raw Grit will teach Cross Fit on June 4 and June 18. On June 11, The following Saturday, there will be no class but fitness enthusiasts can participate in the June 11 Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K (Register HERE).  Desirea Votaw will instruct a yoga class to close the month.
 
July 2 is an open date with no class scheduled. On July 9, Wendy Backus will teach HIIT, followed by two weeks of Pilates with Amy Eakle. The last July class will feature Sgt. Jesse Barnes’ Army Fun class.

The series will wind up with a diverse lineup, starting with another installment of Groves’ Cross Fit on Aug. 6. On Aug. 13, Kim Bell of In Step Dance &  Fitness will teach Zumba Kids and Aug. 20 will feature Mary Ann Renzelli of Strength, Balance, Yoga. Her class will be divided evenly between cardio, strength training and stretch. Groves will wind up the series Aug. 27 with Cross Fit.
 
Classes will be held at the basketball courts at Bridgeport City Park. The series was organized by City Clerk Andrea Kerr, who said she is very pleased with how it has all come together. She invites men, women and children to participate. See the full fitness schedule below.
