Fresh off the Summerfest stage in Charleston and just a few days before heading back to Nashville, the Davisson Brothers Band will showcase its West Virginia-born talent right here in Bridgeport.

Part of Bridgeport Arts Council’s Summer Jam series, the band performs 7 p.m. at Bridgeport City Park.

“We’re just bringing a high-energy, fun show - like we always bring - and representing West Virginia in the best way we can,” said Chris Davisson.

Expect to hear Davisson Brothers Band rockin’ country favorites like “Big City Hillbilly,” “Foot Stompin’” and “Country Just Like Me,” as well as some freshly-penned tunes.

“We’ll be doing a couple of brand new songs that we’ve only played probably two or three times, including the debut of a new song we wrote about West Virginia,” Davisson said.

Davisson shared a story about how “Wild and Wonderful” came to be.

“We were writing with good friends of ours, Ronnie Bowman and Dave Frizzell, and we were in the middle of writing like nine songs in two days when on the seventh day, we just all kind of got in the room and came up with an idea to write a song based around ‘wild and wonderful’ – fitting for where we come from – and I think a lot of other country loving people from all over the country.”

Radio listeners from all over the U.S. will get a chance to hear that tune and a host of others when the band embarks upon a national radio tour next month.

“We’re excited about that. We’ll probably hit 60 to 90 radio stations right off the bat,” Davisson said. “We’ll be traveling coast to coast.”
The onset of the tour coincides with the production of the band’s newest album and the anticipated release of a new single.
“We’re working with the legendary Keith Stegall, who produced most of Alan Jackson’s career,” Davisson said.

Playing lead/slide guitar, Chris Davisson is joined in the Davisson Brothers Band by brother, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Donnie Davisson, cousin, bass guitarist and background vocalist Sammy Davisson and longtime friend/drummer Aaron Regester.

Before hitting the road to Nashville Sunday, the band is en route to Parsons tomorrow and Williamsport, Md. Saturday. Tuesday of next week, the musicians will be featured at Fairmont State University’s back to school event.

“We’ve done a lot of awesome things around here this summer and we’re very honored to be part of the biggest fairs and festivals in the state,” Davisson said. “We’re coming back to West Virginia Aug. 22 with David Lee Murphy and we’ll also be back for the first home Mountaineer game on Sept. 6.”

The band has also been busy outside West Virginia.

“We did 16 states in 10 days,” Davisson said. “We recently performed with Craig Morgan at a military base down in South Carolina. That was really cool. We’ve also performed with John Anderson, Lee Greenwood and we’re getting ready to do a show with Travis Tritt and Jamey Johnson at Bikefest in Ocean City, Maryland.”

In the midst of all the touring and the launch of their radio tour, members of the Davisson Brothers band have been involved in the filming of a reality show, presently being pitched to major TV networks.

“We’ve been to several meetings in New York City and LA over the last three weeks and we’re still working with our producers,” Davisson said. “We’re hoping to shoot the pilot soon.”

The guys will stick around after tonight’s show for meet and greet/photo ops. Also available will be merchandise, including CDs, T-shirts and license plates.

“We look forward to the show and to a great rest of 2014,” Davisson said. “We’re excited to hit the air waves and to get our music out to everybody. And hopefully we’ll have a new TV show here pretty soon.”

Tonight's performance is free of charge.

Bridgeport Arts Council's 2014 Summer Jams series at Bridgeport City Park wraps up next Thursday, Aug. 22, with the Dennis McClung Blues Band.
