Little Explorers Gearing Up for Unit on Dinosaurs

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 01, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Bridgeport Parks & Recreation’s Little Explorers group is gearing up for a new session. Instructor Anita Jesmer said a unit titled “Dig a Dinosaur” will begin Feb. 15 at the Benedum Civic Center.

“Our little paleontologists will study different types of dinosaurs, dig for fossils and will make fossils,” she said. “We will also be discussing where dinosaurs go and why.”

The hands-on science classes are open to children age three to seven. Class time options are 6-6:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays or 10-10:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Registration cost is $30 for the four-week session which runs through mid-March.

Every four weeks or so, Jesmer presents a new topic and incorporates applicable games, crafts and experiments. In past recent months, she has taught area preschoolers all about birds, reptiles, outer space, oceanology, insects, amphibians and weather, among other topics.

She did teach a unit on dinosaurs, but the upcoming one is different than the last, she said. Those interested can sign up at the Benedum Civic Center office. Classes are limited. To contact Bridgeport Parks and Recreation, call 304-842-8240. Jesmer can be reached at 304-669-6416.
