Little Explorers Winter Session is Under Way; Still Room for More

By Julie Perine on January 12, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The winter Little Explorers session got off to a rocky start today.

"Class was supposed to start last week, but there were school cancelations and delays and this morning, there was still a two-hour delay,” said Anita Jesmer, program coordinator/teacher.

Two little tykes did make it to today’s first class on reptiles, which today featured the alligator. The children learned about habits of the crocodilian, including some hands-on camouflaging in muddy waters. They also enjoyed a take-home activity - the making of a paper alligator. Other activities and snacks are included in the sessions, held at the Benedum Civic Center and running Wednesdays through Jan. 28. Today’s class served as make-up for Wed., Jan. 7.

Other reptiles to be studied during this session include turtles, snakes and lizards.

“We hope to have a live lizard here on Wednesday,” Jesmer said.

There are two Little Explorer class times from which to choose. Morning classes run 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesdays and evening classes run 6-6:45 p.m. Wednesdays. Both are intended for the three to six-year-old age group.

Upcoming Little Explorers sessions will feature Insects (Feb. 4-25), Outer Space (March 4-25) and Amphibians (April 1-29).

Cost is $30 per child for each session. Call Bridgeport Parks and Recreation 304-842-8240 to register.
