Mark Your Calendars to Get Hoppin' to Parks & Rec Easter Egg Hunt

By Julie Perine on March 20, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Spring has sprung and so has the announcement about this year’s Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Easter Egg Hunt.

Looked forward to annually by a couple hundred preschool-age egg hunters, the event will be held 2 p.m. April 15 at Bridgeport City Park.

Up for grabs are 4,000 candy-filled plastic eggs, said Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Joe Shuttleworth. In bright colors, the eggs will be spread among the grassy area of the baseball field.

Kids will be divided into two age groups – 3 and under and ages 4-5 – and upon sounding of a go signal, they will canvas the areas, gathering as many eggs as possible. Included will be a couple dozen golden eggs, which can be cashed in for special prizes.

On hand for meet-and-greet and photo ops will be star of the holiday, the Easter Bunny.

Bridgeport Parks & Recreation purchases pre-filled eggs, a service of a sheltered workshop labor force which utilizes handicapped workers.
Children can bring their own baskets or use provided plastic bags. Shuttleworth recommends early arrival to secure parking and be ready for the hunt.

Last year’s Easter Egg Hunt was postponed twice due to inclement weather. Should skies be too rainy on April 15, the event will be held April 17, same time, same place.
