Photos: After Being Postponed, Hay Bales and Tall Tales Goes Off without a Hitch

After being postponed Saturday due to rain, the City’s Hay Bales and Tall Tales event was held Thursday evening at Benedum Civic Center. Sponsored by Bridgeport Parks and Recreation, the event typically features a hayride and is held outdoors. For the past couple of years, it was held at Bridgeport Recreation Complex.

Switching the event to indoors presented its challenges, particularly since the event was slated to be bigger and better than in years past, Parks and Recreation staff members said. But besides eliminating the hayride and a proposed petting zoo that was originally scheduled, Hay Bales and Tall Tales went off without a hitch. About 200 children showed up to play games and enjoy free Halloween goodies.

Games, including fish pond, pumpkin toss, sand art and several other activities, were housed in the upstairs ballroom. Cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and other treats were served downstairs. Bounce houses were set up on the back Civic Center lawn.

According to staff members, the children had a good time. Representing school clubs, Bridgeport High School students helped with the event.  See photos by Hannah Edwards at the gallery below.
