It's Graduation Week for BHS

By Julie Perine on May 21, 2013 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It’s countdown to graduation and Bridgeport High School seniors have plenty of preliminary activities leading up to the big day.

This morning, graduates are rehearsing for Wednesday’s senior assembly, during which time scholarships and awards will be presented. The assembly gets underway 9 a.m. Wednesday in the BHS auditorium. Speakers will include senior class representatives Sundus Lateef and Troy Anderson. (Read story about Lateef and Anderson  HERE.)

On Thursday, the 2013 Baccalaureate service will be held 6 p.m. at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, followed by the 7:15 p.m. Senior Banquet at Bridgeport Conference Center. Attending the banquet will be graduates and BHS faculty members.

The annual Rose Breakfast will be held bright and early Friday morning. The event, again attended only by BHS seniors and faculty, starts at 7 a.m. Immediately afterwards - at 9 a.m. - required graduation practice will be held. Graduates not attending that rehearsal will be moved out of alphabetical order in the processional and will be among the last to receive diplomas, according to BHS administration.

Saturday is the big day – with commencement taking place 9 a.m. at Wayne Jamison Field, weather permitting. Each graduating senior will receive five tickets for seats in the center section of the bleachers. Other guests are invited to attend and sit in other sections. If, due to inclement weather, graduation ceremonies have to be moved indoors to the school gymnasium, only those holding tickets will be permitted to attend due to limited seating. Addressing their peers at Saturday's graduation will be Miss BHS Miki Glenn and Mr. BHS Tyler Sprouse (Read story about Glenn and Sprouse  HERE.)

The senior trip of the BHS graduating class of 2013 was held Friday, May 17, as a large group traveled to Pittsburgh via bus and spent the day at Kennywood Park, followed by an evening Pittsburgh Pirates game.

With grades just in, the preliminary count on those receiving diplomas Saturday is 190, said Pam Pinti, BHS secretary.
