The Bridgeport High School golf team opened the 2022 season in impressive fashion by winning a six-team meet at Stonewall Resort.

The Indians finished with 337 points and Jaden Gregory took low medalist honors with a score of 82.

Rounding out the scores that went toward the team standings for BHS, Brayden Stutler shot an 84, Colton Gerhards finished with an 85 and Anthony Hazy had an 86.

Also for the Indians, Tanner Strealey had a 91 and Dominick Peasak shot a 98.

“It was a great start for our opening match,” BHS coach Fred Wilhelm said. “Scores in the low 80s to mid 80s is a nice intro to our regional course at the end of the year. Jayden really had a nice day on a very wet course.

“Brayden, Colton and Anthony made great strides over the summer and it is showing.”

Following the Indians in the team standings were Parkersburg with 371, North Marion at 386, Buckhannon-Upshur at 391, Lewis County at 396 and East Fairmont at 410.

BHS returns to action on Monday as it will compete in the Parkersburg Invitational. The first home meet will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bridgeport Country Club.
