Five Bridgeport High School wrestlers listed will head to Huntington’s Big Sandy Arena today as the 2015 Class AA state wrestling championships get under way.

Weigh-ins are at 4 p.m. and wrestling starts at 6 p.m. Wrestling begins with the round of 16 today in each class and continues Friday at 10 a.m. with the quarterfinals along with first and second round consolation matches.

On Saturday, the event will have a distinct Bridgeport flavor. Bridgeport High School Assistant Principal Mary Francis Smith will sing the national anthem, which she does annually on the final round. After that, state place winners matches for third and fifth place are held before the arena is closed. It opens back up at 5 p.m. for the finals.

Bridgeport will have one top seed in the event as Noah Markley will represent the Tribe as the top wrestler in the 285 pound division.

The Indians will send several others that have a shot at a title. The other four wrestlers include Carter Householder (152) Cooper Hineman (126), Nick Muller (162) and Matt Dillon (220).
