After not playing for a week, the two back-to-back games to close out the regular season for the Bridgeport boys soccer team could not have went any better for coach Keith Dumas.

The Indians scored early and often in a 6-0 victory against Lincoln last Tuesday and followed that with a 2-0 victory against University on Wednesday that secured the No. 1 seed for the Class AAA Region I, Section 2 tournament.

“We wanted to get on them as early as we could,” Dumas said following the Lincoln game. “I wanted to get my varsity guys 10 to 20 minutes to work together. That opportunity presented itself then we wanted to get our other guys in the game.

“We wanted to get them a good sweat but not over-exerting them with what was coming the next day (the University game).

Against the Cougars, BHS scored five goals in the first 15 minutes en route to the 6-0 win.

Brock Amos struck first for the Indians, A.J. Dinaldo followed with two goals. Ezra Myers found the back of the net with 30:41 left in the first half to make it 4-0 and Jack Wood closed out the early flurry with a goal about 5 minutes later.

Julian Orlando assisted on two of the first-half goals, while Amos and Will Madden each had one.

In the 2-0 win against University, the Indians took a 1-0 lead when Brody Nolte scored on a header off a free kick from Myers. Amos would later make it 2-0 and the Tribe’s defense took care of the rest.

In addition to wrapping up the top seed, and home field throughout the sectional, the UHS win also extended the BHS boys’ win streak to five games and improved their record to 11-6-2.

The BHS girls also wrapped up the regular season with victories against Lincoln (at home) and University (in Morgantown). The girls will also be the top seed in the sectionals which begin on Tuesday.
The girls will take on Preston in a 6 p.m. semifinal game, while the boys will also play Preston, with game time set for 8 p.m.

Gabby Reep had a pair of goals, one in each half, against the Cougars, while Ally Bender, Ally Callahan and Kaylee Reed also had goals.
The Indians closed out the regular season with a 5-1 victory against the Hawks that improved their record to 16-3 and extended their win streak to three.

Bender had two more goals, her 24th and 25th for the season, as well as assist. Callahan, Reep and Chloe Miller added goals. Reep also had an assist. Kylie Bender had a pair of assists and Gracie Courtney added one assist.
