BHS Soccer Teams Forced to Rally in Sweep of Grafton

The Bridgeport High School soccer teams swept Grafton on Tuesday at Wayne Jamison Field and both had to rally to secure a victory.
 
Anna Hutchinson gave the BHS girls an early 1-0 lead against the Bearcats. However, Grafton’s Mara Griffith scored two goals to give team a 2-1 lead to close out the first half.
 
Sarah Povroznik tied it at 2 in the second half before Ally Bender and Gabby Reep scored back-to-back goals to make it 4-2.
 
The Tribe added a late goal to make it 5-2 and improve to 6-2 on the season and extend their win streak to six games. BHS also improved to 4-0 against Big 10 Conference competition.
 
Prior to Tuesday’s victory, the BHS girls blanked Preston 4-0.
 
In that contest, Bender had two goals and an assist. Ally Callahan added a goal and an assist.
 
Ellamy Dodd also scored a goal, while Noelle Anderson, Elisa Dinaldo and Gracie Courtney were credited with assists.
 
The BHS boys surrendered an own goal to fall behind Grafton 1-0 but then reeled off four straight goals en route to a 4-1 victory and improving to 4-4-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the Big 10.
 
Will Madden had two of the Tribe’s goals, while Josh Jackson and Lucas Anderson each had one.
 
In the two games prior to Tuesday, the BHS boys scored a season-high 10 goals in a 10-2 victory against Preston and fell on the road to Greenbrier East, 5-1.
 
Against the Knights, Madden and Anderson each found the back of the net twice, while Ezra Myers, Jackson, Burhan Khorsa, Sam Cava, Luke Murray and Bradley Dale all had one goal.
 
Brock Amos assisted on three goals against Preston and Zane Wagner, A.J. Dinaldo, Jackson Cogar and Cava had one assist apiece.
 
The Indians used three goalkeepers against the Knights in Levi Crayton, Jack Wood and River Blair. Wood and Blair surrendered a goal each.
 
Crayton went the distance in goal against Greenbrier East and had one save. Madden had the Indians’ goal against the Spartans with Amos providing the assist.
 
The BHS girls return to the pitch on Thursday with an away game at North Marion, while the boys are off until Saturday when they travel to face Wheeling Park.
