Bridgeport High School football standout Wes Brown Jr., will soon be an NCAA Division I athlete as he announced his commitment to Saint Francis University on Wednesday.

Brown visited the school located in Loretto, Pa., last week and liked what he saw.

"When I got there I was greeted by Coach (Jacob) Craig, the defensive coordinator and he took me on a tour of the whole facility," Brown said. The weight room was nice. I had already seen the stadium because I went to a camp up there this summer.

"Everything was good but the main thing that kind of got me was there physical therapy program. It’s real legit and I liked everything about it.

"Ever since I was a kid, it’s been the dream. One of my first memories is a WVU football game. Since I was four or five, I've wanted to be a Division I football player."

Brown was a driving force in leading the Indians to the Class AAA state championship in 2024 and was named the 2024 Stydahar Award winner, given annually to the state’s top interior lineman, by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association, in addition to being a first-team all-state selection once again.

The Indians led the state in points scored, regardless of classification, with 801 (57.2 per game) and allowed the fewest points in all of Class AAA at 112 (8.0 per game) and it all started with Brown up front leading the offensive line.

Brown was just as much a force on defense where he had 46 tackles, 8.5 for a loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception. He was part of a defense that gave up just 43 rushing yards per game.
