BHS Swim Team Tops Parkersburg High in Wednesday Meet

The Bridgeport High School swim team claimed a road victory over Parkersburg Wednesday. The Indians defeated PHS 180-144. The Tribe accumulated 95 points in girls’ events and 77 points in boys’ events.
 
As they have throughout the season, the Indians’ Olivia Urse, Randy Keener, Cheyanne Rohde, John Carder and Maria Lacaria claimed first-place finishes in individual events. They and others from the Tribe swim team combined efforts to win several relay races too.
 
In the boys’ 200-yard medley relay, Keener, Carter, Luke Pinti and Phillip Malenich took first place with a time of 1:43.18. The girls didn’t claim a victory in that event, but they did take the second- and third-place spots. Urse, Darian Spencer, Marra Johnson and Sarah Stallman finished in 2:00.58, finishing second, and Hope Rieser, Vaughn Vincent, Lilly Madden and Kirstin George finished in 2:14.47 for third.
 
Urse smoked the competition in the 200-yard freestyle event, completing the race in 2:07.95. She was followed by Signorelli in 2:19.22. Marcel Rodriquez picked up a second-place in the boys’ 200-free, finishing in 2:13.64.
 
Keener took first in the 200-yard individual medley with a finish time of 2:08.33. Pinti took third with a time of 2:26.15. Spencer and Vincent took second and third in the girls’ 200-IM, with times of 2:35.02 and 2:54.08, respectively.
 
Rohde and Carter both won the 50-yard freestyle events; Rohde in 25.58 and Carter in 23.78. In the 100-yard butterfly, Johnson picked up a second place in 1:06.15 and Spencer a third place, closely behind in 1:06.59. Viktor Rodriquez earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard fly, followed by his brother Marcel Rodriquez. The boys’ finish times were 1:02.56 and 1:07.16, respectively.
 
Lacaria finished the 100-yard freestyle event in 1:00.63 and Keener in 52.72, winning the girls’ and boys’ events. Urse once again proved her endurance, winning the 500-yard freestyle event in 5:39.69. Signorelli was second in 6:23.10. For the boys, Viktor Rodriquez claimed second place in 6:12.78.
 
The Tribe dominated in boys’ and girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay. Spencer, Lacaria, Stallman and Rohde claimed their victory in 1:48.04. Marcel Rodriquez, Malenich, Keener and Carter finished in 1:38.40.
 
Rhode won the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:02.52 and Malenich picked up a second-place for the boys in the same event, completing the race in 1:05.16.
 
Carter and Pinti were first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke, recording close finish times of 1:06.06 and 1:06.51. Johnson finished second for the girls in 1:18.53.
 
In the final relays of the evening – the 400-yard freestyle relays – Rohde, Lacaria, Johnson and Urse won for the girls in 4:02.10. Rieser, Vincent, Kelsey Dorchak and Signorelli finished second in 4:25.38. The Rodriquez brothers joined Ryan Knapp and Reed Smith to pick up a second place in the boys’ event, finishing in 4:03.18.

The Tribe is back in action Saturday, participating in the Splash Invitational at West Virginia Wesleyan College. The meet starts at 12 noon.
