Bridgeport High School picked up the win in today’s WVSSAC Class AA Region II golf action at Mel Meadow Golf Club. The Tribe scored 241 for the victory and was led by Mason Williams, who emerged low medalist with a 69. Also playing for the Indians were Matthew Aman, 80; Brayden Lesher, 92 and Trevor Pandher, 94. As per WVSSAC regional rules, the top three scores combine for the team total.

“With Mason and Matt, we figured we had two solid scores, but we still needed a third score and both Brayden and Trevor gave us two low 90s,” said Coach Wilhelm, who was more than pleased with his team’s performance and looks forward to a shot at the state title.

Lewis County scored 252 for second place. The Minutemen’s Ayden Wyckoff was runner-up low medalist, shooting a 71.

Other teams competing were Braxton County, Clay County, Elkins, Herbert Hoover, Liberty, Lincoln, Nicholas County, Roane County and Robert C. Byrd.

The state tournament will be played Oct. 3-4 at Oglebay Park’s Jones Golf Course in Wheeling.

Other members of the 2017 BHS golf team are Cooper Hineman and Joshua Messe.
