Bridgeport High School standout outfielder Quintin Reep had a few offers on the table in regard to playing baseball at the next level.

On Monday he made his decision, signing his letter-of-intent with Fairmont State in a ceremony at his house with his family, friends, teammates and coaches.

“I like the location of it, it’s close to home,” Reep said. “They play all their home games up at the Rec Complex so all my friends and family are going to come see me play. I like the campus. I like the coaches up there. I have a lot of friends that are going to be up there so it was a good fit overall for me.

“There were some good options out there. (West Virginia) Wesleyan, AB, Salem, West Virginia Tech, there were some others too. It all came down to location and the coaching and the school itself.”

Reep said he is leaning toward majoring in exercise science at Fairmont State but hasn’t entirely made up his mind.

The Falcons are getting an outfielder with a pretty decent bat. Reep hit .376 in 33 games last year with one home run and 22 RBI as the Indians captured their sixth consecutive Class AA state championship.

He was pivotal in getting BHS out of last year’s semifinals against Shady Spring with a bases-loaded triple that broke the game open.

Reep is also the state’s 18th overall prospect out of the class of 2020 according to Prep Baseball Report W.V. and the fifth-rated outfielder.

He would have been a key part of Bridgeport’s chase for a seventh straight Class AA title but the COVID-19 pandemic had other plans, cancelling all spring sports in the state. As disappointing as what happened to his senior season is, Reep is thankful knowing his career will continue at the next level.

“I feel lucky,” he said. “A lot of guys don’t get to continue playing. You just got to look at the good not the bad. A lot of guys, there last game was last year in their junior year.”

Before heading off to Fairmont State, Reep will be able to get some baseball in this summer as a member of the Appalachian Aces, a select state-wide travel team with a roster consisting of players from the eastern panhandle to the Kanawha valley.

Low-contact sports such as baseball were given the green light last Friday by Gov. Jim Justice to begin practice on June 8 with a target date of June 22 for games to start.

“It’s exciting,” Reep said.  “We’ve been locked up for three months and I’m itching to play.”
