BMS Softball Team Bounces Back with Win Against Mountaineer Middle

On Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Braves were shutout for the only time this season by the Lincoln Lady Wildcats. On Wednesday afternoon, the BMS Lady Braves hosted the Mountaineer Lady Mountain Lions at the Bridgeport Softball Field in search of a rebound win. It was also the second meeting on the season between these two teams. In the first meeting, BMS was the victor by the score of 34-6.
 
The Lady Braves opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Chloe Barlow was hit by a pitch and stole second. Olivia Bell followed with a walk and then Barlow and Bell successfully completed a double steal.A wild pitch allowed Barlow to score and move Bell to third. Madilyn Fittro followed with a walk and steal of second. Another wild pitch plated Bell and moved Fittro to third. Avery Humble walked and stole second. Two more wild pitches allowed Fittro and Humble to score and give BMS a 4-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the second, the Lady Braves extended their lead by scoring nine runs. Karsyn Adams started the frame with a walk and steal of second. Barlow and Bell followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. A single by Fittro brought home Adams and Barlow. Humble worked out a walk to load the bases. Addison Mike, the BMS starting pitcher, walked to bring Bell across the plate. Emma Dale singled to center field and the ball glanced off the outfielder and rolled towards the outfield fence. On that play, Fittro, Humble, Mike and Dale scored. Amayah Clark singled and Breanna Laxton entered as a pinch runner and remained in the game as the catcher. Adams reached on an outfield error, and Peyton Kelley entered the game as a pinch runner and then went on to play right field. Barlow reached base on an infield error that saw Laxton score and advanced Kelley to third. A walk to Bell loaded the bases and a walk to Humble scored Kelley. BMS was up 13-0.
In the BMS third, they completed the scoring. Annie Veigel singled and stole second. Molly Frenzel singled and Veigel scored on the play. A stolen base and a wild pitch moved Frenzel to third. Laxton walked and Payton Fisher entered as a courtesy runner. Fisher stole second and Kelley walked to load the bases. With one out, Mara Beverage singled to left and Frenzel and Fischer came around to score. The final score was BMS 16 and Mountaineer Middle 0.
 
Mike was the winning pitcher for the Lady Braves. Her pitching line read three innings, zero runs, two hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. Her season pitching record improved to 3-0.
 
The Lady Braves return to action today as they travel to Morgantown to play South Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
