BMS Softball Team Falls To Westwood, 19-8

On Wednesday, the BMS Lady Braves traveled to Granville to play the Westwood Lady Warriors in middle school softball action. Westwood defeated BMS by the score of 19-8.
 
The Lady Braves opened the scoring in the top of the first. Olivia Bell started the game with a walk, a steal of second advanced to third on an overthrow. She scored on a wild pitch.
 
The Lady Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the first on a lead off double and a two out double.
 
In the top of the second, Breanna Laxton singled and took second on a passed ball. Emma Dale walked. Bell singled to plate Laxton. Sylvia Devono was credited with a RBI that scored Dale. Avery Humble followed with a two run double to bring home Bell and Devono. BMS was now up 5-1.
 
Westwood scored three times in their half of the second. Two singles, a walk, and a double contributed to the scoring.
 
Chloe Barlow started the third with a single and steal of second. She moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a steal of home. BMS had a 6-4 advantage.
 
Westwood took the lead in the bottom of the third. Three walks, a double, and two BMS outfield errors saw three runs score and gave Westwood a 7-6 lead.
 
The Lady Braves tied the score in the fourth. Karsyn Adams was hit by a pitch and stole second. Bell followed with a walk. Both runners advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt by Devono. Adams scored on a infield ground out by Humble.
 
The Lady Warriors scored a single run in the bottom half of the fourth on a three base outfield error and a sacrifice fly. The scoreboard had an 8-7 lead for Westwood.
 
Westwood extended their lead by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. Three singles, two BMS infield fielding errors, and a three-run home run lead to the scoring. Westwood was up 15-7.
 
In the top of the sixth, Madilyn Isch entered the game as a pinch hitter. She was hit by a pitch and moved second on a wild pitch. She came around to score on a two out single off the bat of Madilyn Fittro to make the score 15-8.
 
Westwood completed the scoring on two singles, an infield error, an outfield error, a walk, and a two run home run. The final score was Westwood 19 and Bridgeport 8.
 
The Lady Braves season record fell to 7-5.
 
BMS returns to action on Thursday evening at the Bridgeport Softball Field as they take on East Fairmont Middle School. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. Prior to start of the game, BMS will recognize the ten eighth grade members of the Lady Braves softball team.
