On Tuesday afternoon, the Bridgeport Middle School softball team traveled to Shinnston to take on the Lincoln Lady Wildcats in middle school softball action. This was the first of two meetings between these teams in the 2024 season.

Lincoln won by a 5-0 score.

LMS took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With one out, Kennedy Linville singled and stole second. She moved to third on a ground out to second base by Aspen Dyer. Linville scored on an overthrow from the BMS catcher back to pitcher.

The Lady Wildcats increased their lead in the bottom of the second. Reese Bennett singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Kristen Leggett bunted and reached second on a BMS infield error that saw Bennett score. Gracie Hardesty followed with single to left field and that brought Leggett around to score. After two complete innings, LMS had a 3-0 lead.

Ava Eakle started the LMS sixth inning by reaching base on a BMS infield error. Eakle moved to second on a passed ball and scored when Leggett reached base on a BMS throwing error. After a steal of second by Leggett,  Hardesty singled to bring home Leggett. That made the score 5-0 in favor of LMS and that was the final score.

LMS starting pitcher, Baylea Grogg, pitched a complete game shutout to earn the pitching win. Her pitching line read seven innings, zero runs, zero hits, one walk, one batter hit by a pitch, and eight strikeouts.

Chloe Barlow pitched a complete game for BMS  in the loss. Her pitching line read six innings, five runs, four hits, zero walks, and two strikeouts. Her season pitching record is now 3-2.

The Lady Braves return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they host the Mountaineer Lady Mountain Lions at the Bridgeport Softball Field. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
