Bridgeport Girls and Boys Dominate Rotary Holiday Invitational at Harrison County YMCA

The Bridgeport High School swim team dominated at Saturday’s Rotary Holiday Invitational held at the Harrison County YMCA. The Tribe’s girls combined for 511 points as Fairmont Senior earned place second with 180 points. Runner-up boys’ team was Robert C. Byrd, accumulating 151 points to the Tribe’s 439.
 
Also competing in both girls’ and boys’ races were Notre Dame, Philip Barbour, Grafton, Liberty and North Marion. Lincoln and East Fairmont also entered swimmers in girls’ events.
 
Coach Jan Grisso was once again very pleased, crediting not only top swimmers, but also the depth of her team.
 
"I'm very proud of all my swimmers' performances on Saturday," she said. "The four first-place finishes by John Carter, Randy Keener, Olivia Urse, Cheyanne Rohde and Darian Spencer were outstanding. The win was a total team effort."
 
Action started with the girls’ 200-yard medley relay; the Lady Indians claiming first and second places. Olivia Urse, Darian Spencer, Marra Johnson and Maria Lacaria finished in two minutes; Hope Rieser, Vaughn Vincent, Lilly Madden and Kirstin George in 2:13.88. In the same race, Bridgeport’s boys Randy Keener, John Carter, Luke Pinti and Kyle Malcolm finished in 1:45.62, claiming the top spot.
 
In the girls’ 200-yard freestyle race, Marra Johnson (2:11.28) and Cheri Signorelli (2:17.84) finished in second and third, respectively; Fairmont Senior’s Mia Abruzzino claiming first. Bridgeport’s Marcel Rodriquez finished the boys' 200-yard freestyle in second place (2:04.56).
 
Urse won the girls’ 200-yard individual medley (2:16.19) and Keener (2:12.52) won the same race for the boys.
It was the Indians’ Cheyanne Rohde (26.08) who claimed first place in the girls’ 50-yard freestyle. Sarah Stallman was third with 27.98. Carter took first in the boys’ 50-free, finishing at 23.76.
 
In the girls’ 100-yard butterfly, Spencer took first and Vincent second in 1:06.28 and 1:12.54, respectively. Bridgeport’s Viktor Rodriquez finished the boys’ 100-yard fly in 1:03.38, taking the top spot.
 
Rohde finished the girls’ 100-yard freestyle in 56.70, taking first and Carter won the boys’ 100-yard freestyle in 53.20. The Tribe’s Marcel Rodriquez (55.08) and Malcolm (57.33) took second and third.
 
Johnson displayed great endurance, claiming second place in the girls’ 500-yard freestyle event, finishing in 5:48.24 and Keener did the same on the boys’ side, finishing in 5:11.80.
 
Spencer, Stallman, Lacaria and Rohde finished the girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:49.39, taking the top spot and Marcel Rodriquez, Phillip Malenich, Reed Smith and Malcolm won, finishing in 1:41.31.
 
Urse won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.02 and Malenich finished second for the boys, completing the race in 1:03.93.
 
Spencer was first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.91; Stallman finishing second in 1:22.02 and George third in 1:22.78. Pinti and Ryan Knapp took first and second, respectively, finishing in 1:08.05 and 1:14.13.
 
Rohde, Johnson, Stallman and Urse combined to win the 400-yard freestyle relay, completing the race in 3:56.51. Vincent, Rieser, Kelsey Dorchak and Signorelli took third place in 4:26.35. Bridgeport boys claimed first and second places in the same race; Marcel Rodriquez, Keener, Malenich and Carter finishing in 3:37.97 and Viktor Rodriquez, Nick Allen, Gage Clifton and Christian Meagher finishing in 4:20.90.
