Bridgeport Little League won the West Virginia Little League 11-12 Year Old State Championship this evening at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex. The host team defeated Barboursville 12-2.
The locals started off hot with a 10-0 lead in the first inning. Casey Tomasik pitched a strong game in support of the offense holding a hard-hitting Barboursville team to only two runs in four and a third innings. Austin Mann closed up the final two outs in the top of the fifth inning.
With an 11-2 score in the bottom of the fifth inning, Christopher Harbert blasted a solo home run to left field immediately ending the contest due to the 10-run mercy rule, resulting in a win for Bridgeport. This is manager Terry Cole's third straight state championship.
