After having its first two games of the 2017 season cancelled due to inclement weather, Mother Nature finally provided Bridgeport Middle School with an opportunity to play their first softball game yesterday (Thursday). The Lady Braves traveled to Mountaineer Middle School to take on the Lady Mountain Lions on a sunny, but cool, afternoon.  For MMS, it was also its first game of the season.

Bridgeport won the contest 20-0 to move to 1-0 on the year.

The Lady Braves scored four first inning runs. Two singles, three walks, and a few wild pitches led to the four runs. Scoring for BMS were Paige Humble, Lyda Sandy, Olivia Kesling, and Katie Via.

In the second inning, BMS exploded for 11 runs. Key hits were a bases loaded clearing triple by Via, a two RBI triple by starting pitcher Johnna Hull, and a two-run homerun by Humble that easily cleared the centerfield fence 212 feet away.  After two innings, the Braves were up by the score of 15-0.

The Braves tacked on five more runs in the top of the third. A double by Humble and a single by Corinne Lalama were instrumental in the scoring.

Hull pitched two innings for BMS to earn her first win of the season.  Her pitching line read no runs, one hit, no walks, and two strikeouts.

Cheyenne Martin entered the game and pitched a scoreless third inning for the Lady Braves. She allowed a walk, hit one batter and added one strikeout.

The game ended after three innings.

The Lady Braves return to action next week with two home games. On Monday (3/27) they host Washington Irving Middle School and on Thursday (3/30) Lincoln Middle School will provide the opposition.

Game time for both games is 5 p.m.
