Bridgeport Remains on Top of Class AA MetroNews Baseball Standings; Only Unanimous No. 1 in State

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 10, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The third week of the MetroNews High School Baseball Power Rankings have been released and perhaps to no one’s surprise in the early going, Bridgeport is ranked No. 1 in Class AA.

Perhaps a bit surprising, however, is the one thing the Indians currently are with the poll. Among all the ranked teams in all three classifications, the Tribe is the only unanimous choice as the top team in their classification.

The Indians received all 10 first place votes in the poll. The panel of voters is made of 10 radio broadcasters and sports writers from across West Virginia.

The poll, which was released after the first week of the season, did not include Monday’s and Tuesday’s results. The Indians toppled Lewis County 8-0 to move to 6-0 Monday and battled at Philip Barbour last night.

PBHS was one of four teams in the “receiving votes” portion of the poll. The only other local team ranked in Class AA is Elkins. The Tigers are ranked seventh and had a 10-4 record at the start of the week.

Hurricane is ranked No. 1 in Class AAA, while Moorefield is listed as the top team in Class A. Locally, Notre Dame is ranked in the top 10 in the ‘A’ standings with an 8-4 record and a No. 4 showing.
