Bridgeport's Greely Recognized for Nomination to McDonald's All American Basketball Team

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 10, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Before Monday night’s tipoff between the Bridgeport High School Indians and the Philip Barbour Colts, area McDonald’s franchiser – John Ebert – recognized the Tribe’s Nick Greely for his nomination to the 2016 McDonald’s All American Basketball Team. Known as the high school version of the “Dream Team,” past members include NBA/NCA basketball superstars Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Each year, proceeds from the All American Game benefit the local Chapters of the Ronald McDonald House Charities in the area the games are played. More than three million dollars have been raised since the game’s first started in 1978.

Each year, a selection committee of prominent high school coaches, prep scouts and media from across the United States choose the nation’s top high school senior boy and girl basketball players from a pool of approximately 2,500 players. Although not ultimately chosen, it was quite an honor to be nominated for the team. Greely was one of only two in Harrison County to be considered this year. Also nominated was Luke Dyer of Robert C. Byrd High School.

A member of the BHS DECA Club, Greely is the son of Beth and Stacy Greely of Bridgeport. He averages 22 points per game and eight rebounds.  Prior to Monday night’s game, Greely had scored 1,185 points during his high school basketball career. He has played AAU Basketball for Ohio Elite and TOGS out of Morgantown. Because of his basketball skills, Nick has received scholarship offers from VMI, Maine and the Air Force Academy. He remains undecided about his post high-school academic and athletic choices.

This year’s McDonald’s All American Basketball games will take place March 30 in Chicago.
