Bridgeport’s 2016-17 wrestling season came to an end early Saturday afternoon at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington with a pair of wrestlers managing to place at the state tournament meet.

The Indians’ Cooper Hineman and Aidan Gibson both finished the year with sixth place finishes at the state meet. The pair competed Saturday in the consolation bracket.

Gibson, a freshman, fell to Oak Glenn’s Ty Logston. Logston earned the win via pin. Hineman, a junior, also lost via pinfall. Shayden Daugherty of Keyser took the win to earn fifth place and push Hineman to the sixth spot.

Both grapplers will return next year for first-year Coach Chris Courtney. Those two, along with sophomore state qualifier Austin Gibson and several other promising wrestlers, could be the foundation for a strong future for the Indians.
