DeMoss, Pappas Lead Way for BHS Cross Country Teams at Big 10 Conference Championship

Bailey DeMoss was the runner-up at Thursday’s Big 10 Conference Cross Country Championship, leading the way for the Bridgeport boys, who finished sixth in the team standings.
 
DeMoss finished with a time of 18:30.80 on the course at Philip Barbour High School, Thursday morning.
 
Kaitlin Pappas came in third overall with a time of 22:46.48 to help the BHS girls place eighth in the team standings.
 
East Fairmont won the boys team title for the first time in school history and Buckhannon-Upshur edged Preston for the girls team title.
 
Elkins’ Charlie Smoak crossed the finish line first to win the boys individual title, while Preston’s Allie Martin took the girls individual.
 
With their Top 10 finishes, DeMoss and Pappas each earned all-Big 10 first-team honors.
 
Runners who placed 11th through 20th earned second-team all-conference honors and the BHS boys had two achieve that honor in Sam Backus, who was 18th with a time of 20:06.00 and Joseph Goddard, who came in 20th with a time of 20:11.89.
 
Also for the Indians, Sam Dodson was 29th overall with a time of 20:46.12 and Haden McCarthy was 56th overall at 23:10.34.
 
Rounding out the Top 10 for the BHS girls were Madison Looker, 28th overall at 25:19.08; Abigale Stewart, 39th overall at 26:42.10; Caroline Deniker, 52nd at 27:51.64. and Victoria Vash, 58th at 28:28.71
