Director of Athletics Tim McNeely has announced the hiring of Kyle Hoffman to lead the men's tennis program at Fairmont State University.

 

"The entire athletic department is pleased to announce Kyle as the next head coach of the men's tennis program at Fairmont State," said McNeely. "Kyle has great passion for the sport and is very familiar with players and coaches in the area because of his experiences with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and being a college student-athlete in West Virginia."

 

Hoffman is currently the Director of Programming for the USTA, where he administers tennis services to the second largest territory in the Mid-Atlantic. Since 2011, Hoffman has increased individual membership in his territory by 237% and organizational membership by 873%.

 

Hoffman has also implemented or assisted with over 200 new programs, highlighted by the WV Grand Prix (450+ players per year), Mini-Mountaineer KTC's (450+ kids), 50+ play days and helped bring the first pro event to West Virginia in over 85 years.

 

"I'm very excited to be the new men's tennis coach and would like to personally thank the athletic department for giving me this opportunity," said Hoffman. "The team and I will work hard to continue to get better. This conference is very competitive, but this team is a great group of young men who are motivated to take on the challenge."

In addition to the programs and events that Hoffman has helped bring to the area, he also handles budgeting, business plans and marketing for the USTA.

 

As the Tennis Director at MCPARC, he created a park and recreation program and is the decision maker for four county parks with over 150 kids and 100 adults. Hoffman is the tennis director for the largest active USTA adult program.

 

Hoffman received his Master's Degree in Business Administration and Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he was a standout on the tennis courts for the Bobcats.

 

Hoffman finished his college tennis career with over 50 wins in singles and doubles competition and suffered fewer than 10 losses in his career. During his four-year career, he helped the Bobcats to a pair of conference semifinal and finals appearances. He was also part of two teams that were ranked in the top 40 nationally in NCAA Division II.

 

As a walk-on to the men's tennis team, he was a four-year starter and earned Most Improved Player following his junior season and was named team MVP following his senior season. Hoffman only lost one singles match and two doubles matches during his junior year.

 

Hoffman was also named the 2014 Professional Tennis Registry Member of the Year for the state of West Virginia after organizing one of the first 11-17 PTR workshops in the country in November of 2013.

 

In addition to his education received at West Virginia Wesleyan, Hoffman is currently working on a Master's of Tennis for Junior Development certification.
