Golf is Madie Summers’ passion and being involved with the Augusta Masters was only a pipedream until recently. But the 2021 Grafton High School graduate and former athlete will be traveling to Augusta, Ga. In April for the 2023 Masters, working as a tech sales attendant in the main golf pro shop.

“With golf holding such a soft s pot in my heart, I understand what an honor it is to be selected to work at the Masters in Augusta,” Summers said. “This is an opportunity I just couldn’t turn down and I will remember it for years to come.”

Securing the position was a process; one which started while she was watching last year’s tournament.

“I thought to myself, it would be pretty cool to work at the Augusta National and see what goes on behind the scenes,” Summers said.

She did some research, signed up for emails and waited for the application process to open.

“In October, I received an email saying that Human Resources was accepting resumes,” she said. “I sent in my resume and applied for a sales associate position.”

She was granted an online interview in December and in January, she received the news that she had been hired.

“I was so excited and surprised. There were actually tears of joy,” Summers said. “I kept the entire process a secret until the very day  received the email stating I had been hired, so I couldn’t wait to call all of my family and close friends to let them know.”

Summers’ passion for the sport started in the 8th grade when she began golfing with her dad, Ben Summers, a 1989 graduate of Bridgeport High School.

“It quickly became addicting and ne of my favorite activities to do, especially with him,” he said. “The summer before my freshman year of high school, I scored a hole-in-one at Tygart Lake Course and the addiction developed even more from there.”

Summers played golf at Grafton High School and since graduation, she continues to play in her spare time. She has been employed by the Tygart Lake Golf Course for three years.

“I enjoy being around the sport and atmosphere,” she said. “That golf course is so special to me and everyone there has become like family.”

From Grafton, Summers currently lives in Fairmont. In addition to working at Tygart Lake Golf Course, Summers is also employed part-time at a local gym and is a student at Pierpont Technical & Communiity College. In May, she will graduate with a business management degree.

“As for my plans after graduation, I’m very interested in the business and management world, so I guess we’ll just have to see where that takes me,” she said.

The 2023 Masters Tournament in August is April 6-9. Summers’ travel and lodging expenses are not included with the upcoming opportunity. Venmo donations to @Madie-Summers-1 are greatly appreciated.
