Former Fairmont Senior, WVU Standout and Current Pittsburgh Steeler, Zach Frazier, Nets Another Honor

Houston’s Jamal Shead and Texas’ Madisen Skinner were named the Big 12 Male and Female Athletes of the Year for the 2023-24 season. Shead captured the award in the Cougars’ inaugural year in the league while Skinner is the second consecutive Longhorn to collect the honor and the 16th overall.

Former Fairmont Senior and West Virginia University standout Zach Frazier was WVU's male athlete of the year candidate.
Each institution nominated one male and one female athlete of any classification that competed for their institution during the 2023-24 school year. Student-athletes were required to be in good academic standing and had to be from a league-sponsored sport.
The 14 schools that competed during the 2023-24 academic year were eligible.
The winners were announced Wednesday, June 26.

- Three-time team captain (2021-23). Allowed only one sack over his last two years. Drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 19th pick of the second round.
- Named to nine All-America teams for the 2023 season highlighted by first team by Action Network, second team by The Sporting News, USA Today, The Athletic and third team by the Associated Press.
- Earned All-Big 12 First Team honors for the second consecutive season in 2023.
- Semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy and Jason Witten Man of the Year Award.
