Former RCB, Fairmont State Football Standout Mayer to Maintain Role under New Battlers Football Coach

Kirk Campbell, who was named the head coach of the Alderson Broaddus football team on Monday, has announced staff changes for the 2017 season. 
 
The seven coaches under Campbell will remain the same for next season with four of them changing positions. One of the individuals staying in his same capacity is former Robert C. Byrd and Fairmont State University standout J.J.  Mayer. 
 
Mayer was involved in many great games between Bridgeport and RCB on the high school football fiedl. He'll return as the Defensive Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator, and Defensive Backs Coach 
 
Salvatore Dewalt will now be the Assistant Head Coach as well as the Offensive Coordinator for the Battlers. Dewalt will remain the Offensive Line Coach as well.
 
Other position changes to the staff include Avery Hawkins switching to Defensive Backs Coach as well as Tanner McCormick changing to Wide Receivers Coach and Pass Game Coordinator. Hawkins served as a defensive back for California (Pa.) from 2002 through 2005 where he played in 30 career games. Hawkins' brother Andrew is a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns. 
 
McCormick played wide receiver for Otterbein where he graduated in 2010. He finished with 36 catches for 695 yards and seven touchdowns during his final two seasons.
 
Adam Wattenbarger, who served as the assistant quarterbacks coach in 2016, will serve as the running backs coach next season. He served as a quarterback for four seasons for the Battlers and is an original battler. Wattenbarger also competed on the swimming team at AB in 2015-16.
 
Along with Mayer, other members of the Battler coaching staff that will coach in the same slot as 2016. Adam Schmidt returns as the Defensive Line Coach and Patrick Ruley will return as the Linebackers Coach and the Special Teams Coach.
