Gov. Justice Vetoes Bill Allowing Home-Schooled and Private School Students to Play Public School Sports

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 27, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

According to MetroNews, Gov. Jim Justice vetoed the bill that would have allowed home schooled and some private school students to play sports at public schools.

The veto was posted Thursday on the legislature’ website. There was no veto message immediately posted for the bill (HB 2196) but one was expected.

The original version of the bill only provided a path for home schooled students to play public school sports but the Senate added an amendment that would open that up to kids who go to private or religious schools but only if their schools are without any sports. That’s the version that Justice considered.
