Handful of Indians Receive Post-Season Soccer Nods

Bridgeport's Adam Bentz, Tyler Whiteman and Tristan Nolte have been named first-team Big 10 in post-season soccer rankings.

Second-team honors went to Broc Oliverio and Isaiah Williams with Tristan Shaw receiving honorable mention.

Whiteman, Bentz and Nolte were also named among standout soccer athletes in Region 2. All are deserving of the recognition, said Coach Danny Hamrick.

“We played probably the most difficult 'AA' schedule in the state,” Hamrick said. “We have really beefed up our schedule and to go 15-5-2 is a very big accomplishment. These kids and others could start on any team we played, in my opinion.”

Hamrick was disappointed that the trio didn’t make first- or second-team honors on a ranking released by the West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Association.

All three made the honorable mention list; Whiteman as a forward and Nolte and Bentz as midfielders. Hamrick is glad they received some recognition from the WVHSSCA, but feels they deserved a higher ranking and that others on the team should have made the list.

“It’s very disappointing. If those three boys are not first- or second-team All-State, I’ve never had one," he said.

The voting took place Oct. 29 at a coaches’ meeting held just prior to the state tournament. Coaches were not required to vote and some didn’t. Hamrick just doesn’t think results present a true picture of his athletes’ abilities and performances.

Hamrick feels both Williams and Oliverio are also deserving of WVHSSCA All-State honors.

“Not necessarily first-team, but they both definitely deserve recognition,” he said.

Yet to be released are honors selected by the Sports Writers Association.

A handful of Lady Indians also received post-season accolades. Look for a story Thursday on Connect-Bridgeport.
