West Virginia University football coach Dana Holgorsen released a statement Sunday on the recent arrest of player Wendell Smallwood last Monday.

Smallwood, expected to be a key piece to West Virginia’s offense this fall, faces extradition to his home state of Delaware this Thursday where he will be charged with witness intimidation stemming from a 2012 murder case. According to the DelawareOnline.com, Police said the 20-year-old Smallwood repeatedly attempted to “convince a witness to recant statements implicating his friend who’s charged with first-degree murder.”

Here are Holgorsen’s comments on the matter as released by WVU.

““We are fully aware of all proceedings involving Wendell Smallwood and will continue to monitor the situation. To protect the integrity of the criminal proceedings in Delaware, including the state’s case against the unrelated defendant, we cannot comment further at this time. Additional information will be available at the conclusion of all proceedings. As a team, we will continue to prepare for the 2014 football season and look forward to the start of camp on July 31.”
