West Virginia University men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins has announced that Miles McBride has signed a national letter of intent for the 2019-20 academic year.

McBride, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard from Cincinnati, is currently in his senior year at Archbishop Moeller High School, playing for coach Carl Kremer.

“We’re obviously very excited to sign a great player from Moeller,” Huggins said. “He’ll come in well-coached and with great toughness. Miles will be able to play multiple guard positions for us.”

As a sophomore, McBride was a starter on Moeller’s Division I state runner-up team that lost to Massillon Jackson, 39-38, in the state final. Moeller finished the season with a 28-1 record.

He was second on the team in scoring at 10.9 points per game. McBride averaged 3.4 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 2.3 assists. He shot 56.1 percent from the field, 43.3 percent from 3-point range and 72.2 percent from the free throw line.

After the season, McBride was named First Team Greater Catholic League (GCL) South and First Team All-Southwest District.

In his junior season, McBride injured his foot while playing quarterback and played in two basketball games last season. In five games on the gridiron, McBride threw for 17 touchdowns and was 58-of-78 passing. McBride threw for 201 yards on 11-of-12 passing with four touchdowns against Hamilton. He was 9-for-11 for 197 yards and five touchdowns against Lafayette and threw for four scores while rushing for 118 yards against Scott County.

McBride played in the state semifinals and finals last season in basketball, scoring 14 points in 14 minutes in leading Moeller to an 83-65 win over Solon for the Ohio Division I title.

McBride did not play football this season to concentrate on basketball.

McBride’s father, Walt, played basketball at Xavier, while his mother, Kim, played tennis at Ohio State.

The November signing period continues through next Wednesday.
