By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on June 08, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

West Virginia Patriot Baseball is hosting a major travel baseball tournament to be held at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex, Bridgeport High School and Robert C. Byrd this weekend, June 8th, June 9, and June 10.

The 2nd Annual Blazin’ Summer Classic sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings includes a 42 team field broken into 6 age brackets with teams competing in each of 9U, 10U, 12U, 13U, 14U & 16U divisions. There will be 630 players & coaches participating in the tournament. Expectations are that large crowds will be in attendance over the weekend as has been the case with past tournament.

Admission is $3 per day and those under 12 are admitted free. Residents of the community are invited to come out and watch a little or a lot of youth baseball as 78 games will be played between Friday’s 5 p.m. start through Sunday evening’s six championship games. Schedule, game results and standings will be posted to www.wvpatriotbaseball.com throughout the weekend for up-to-date information on the tournament.

The slate for the tournament includes Friday games beginning at 5 p.m., Saturday games beginning at 8 a.m., and Sunday games starting at 8 a.m. and playing toward the championship games in each division. Each team will play 2 games, based on those results, then be seeded for a single elimination format ending with our bracket champions.

As an added attraction this year, on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Rec Complex, there will be a Homerun Derby for 12U participants only. Grand Prize is an X-Box to be awarded to the winner from our sponsor, Buffalo Wild Wings! This is a non-sanctioned event and the participants are travel baseball teams from four states.
