Indians Once Again Prove to be Unanimous Choice as No. 1 Team in MetroNews 'AA' Baseball Poll

What does five wins in a one week, including a neutral site victory against one of the state’s top-ranked teams get you? If it’s the MetroNews Baseball Power Rankings for Week 5 it will get you the number one spot in the Class AA rankings.

The Indians not only maintained their grip on the top position in the ‘AA’ portion of the poll released earlier this week, they once again became the unanimous pick of the nine voters on this week’s panel. The panel consists of radio broadcasters and sports writers from across the state.

BHS was able to get that for more than just the five wins. The Tribe won a battle against No. 3 Scott in at Sue Ross Field on the campus of Glenville State College by a 10-7 score to turn the trick. Scott, who is now 17-4, remained No. 3 in this week’s poll.

Two Big 10 teams are also in the top 10. East Fairmont, at 12-6, is ranked No. 6. Philip Barbour, who started the week 13-4, is ranked No. 7. Elkins is the first team listed in the receiving votes portion of the poll.

In Class A, Notre Dame is ranked No. 5. The Fighting Irish is listed with a 14-6 record.

Hurricane is ranked No. 1 in Class AAA. Morgantown, the only in-state school to beat Bridgeport this year, is No. 3 in the ‘AAA’ standings.

As a reminder, the records listed are after the completion of games played April 20.
