After a scheduled bye week, Bridgeport saw its football team take a dip in the MetroNews High School Football Power Rankings. Despite not playing, the Indians fell one spot in the Class AAA portion of the poll voted on by radio broadcasters and sports writers from across the state.

The Indians, 6-0, were No. 3 in last week’s poll. This week, the Indians find themselves at No. 4.

BHS can make a jump in the eyes of the voters with a win Friday. The Tribe will play arguably their toughest foe to date when they travel to battle unbeaten Princeton, who is 5-0 after a 21-16 win against Hedgesville.

Cabell Midland, 7-1, moved from the No. 4 spot into the No. 3 spot previously held by the Indians. CMHS upended George Washington by a 35-7 score and will host Parkersburg South Friday.

Martinsburg remains a unanimous No. 1 at 8-0. The Bulldogs earned all 20 first place votes after rolling Spring Mills 63-16 and will host unbeaten and 7-0 Jefferson, No. 6, on Friday.

Huntington remained at No. 2. The Highlanders, 8-0, pounded St. Albans 56-7 and will visit South Charleston this week.

University rounds out the top five. The Hawks, 7-0, rolled Buckhannon-Upshur 63-6 and will visit Preston this week.

Herbert Hoover, 7-0, is the top-ranked team in Class AA. Fairmont Senior, 3-3, is in the fifth spot after a 21-20 win against Robert C. Byrd. The Eagles, now 4-3, dropped to the seventh spot.

Between RCB and the Polar Bears is Lincoln at No. 6. The Cougars earned a forfeit win against Elkins to move to 5-1. North Marion is also ranked as the Huskies, 4-1, beat Lewis County 37-7.

In Class A, Doddridge County is at the top of the heap despite having the same amount of first place votes as No. 2 and 5-3 Wheeling Central (seven each). The Bulldogs are 5-0 following a 48-7 win against Ravenswood.
