Indians Positioned for Strong Showing at Big 10 Conference Tennis Tournament

The Bridgeport High School tennis teams are poised to make some noise at the Big 10 Conference tournament which begins today and will run through Saturday.
 
The tournament will follow the regional and state tournament format once again with rankings based on the UTR system.

The team championship portion of the tournament will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the courts at Hinkle and Deegan Lakes. The boys side will feature a showdown between BHS and Robert C. Byrd. The girls side will see Bridgeport take on Buckhannon-Upshur.
 
Singles and doubles action will begin on Thursday at the lakes as well as Robert C. Byrd High School. Thursday’s action is scheduled to start at 2 p.m., Friday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m.
 
Singles and doubles play in the Big 10 is no longer set up in the format where there is a No. 1 singles bracket, No. 2 bracket, No. 3 bracket and No. 4 bracket, No. 1 doubles bracket, No. 2 doubles bracket and No. 3 doubles bracket.
 
This year’s format will see 64-seed tournaments for singles and 32-seed tournaments for doubles.
 
In BHS girls singles action, Ella Sorine is the No. 1 seed in the 6- player tournament (only 41 actual players so 23 first-round byes) and will have a first-round bye.
 
Presley Carlyle is the No. 7 seed and also has a first-round bye.
 
Sofia Dannunzio is the No. 12 seed, and after a first-round bye, will play Lewis County’s Maureen Fisher (No. 13) in the second round
Madison Hansberry for BHS is the No. 16 seed and will face No. 17 Allyson Bartlett from Liberty in the second round (both have first round byes).
 
For the BHS boys, Eli Jones is No. 3, Adam Jackson is No. 6, Gregory Noone is No. 8 and Tucker Pomeroy is No. 20. All four have first-round byes. Pomeroy’s second-round opponent will be East Fairmont’s Kollin Maxey, the No. 13 seed, who also has a first-round bye.
 
In the girls doubles tournament, Carlyle and Sorine are the No. 8 seed will play the No. 25 seed from Elkins in Ariel Snodgrass, Juliann Harlan in the first round.
 
Hansberry and Addison McCarthy are the No. 13 seed for BHS and will play the No. 20 seed from Grafton in Lucia Jacquez and Kambria Kelley.
 
Dannunzio and Chloe Miller are the No. 10 seed for BHS and will play Grafton’s No. 23 team of Kasey Alexander and Bella Glaspell in the first round.
 
In the boys doubles bracket, Noone and Jones are the top seed and have a first-round bye. Jackson and Jacob Keener are the No. 5 seed and have a first-round bye.
 
Brayden Stutler and Sean Huffman are the No. 10 seed for BHS and will take on. RCB’s No. 23 duo of Finn Rowand and Mark Lemon in the opening round.
