Indians Remain at No. 4 Spot in Latest SSAC Poll with Keyser at No. 3 Ahead of Friday's 'AA' Showdown

The WVSSAC ratings after week eight of the West Virginia High School football season were released Tuesday afternoon and Bridgeport is in good position currently for the postseason. And it goes without saying if the team wins Friday they will be in excellent position.

Bridgeport comes in ranked No. 4 in Class AA with a 7-1 record. They are the highest ranked of four one-loss teams and are also ahead of two undefeated teams.

The Indians are ranked higher based strictly on the computer-generated results. BHS is higher based on its collective strength of schedule.

A win Friday would only enhance the Tribe in the standings. The reason for that is they play 7-0 and third-ranked Keyser at Wayne Jamison Field.

The Golden Tornado has steamrolled their opponents on their way to a perfect start to the season. A win against KHS would provide the Tribe with a bundle of bonus points that are factored into the equation determining rankings.

As for the top spot in Class AA, nothing has changed. Fairmont Senior is a clear number one with a 7-0 mark. The defending state champions are followed by 7-0 Poca in the second position.

Rounding out the top five is Man High School at 7-0. The only local team in the top 10 is North Marion as the Huskies are ranked No. 10 with a 5-2 mark.

Two other local squads are also in the top 16, which will make up the four-round playoff field upon the completion of the season. Liberty, 6-1, is ranked No. 11 and Lewis County, 5-2, comes in at No. 12. No other local teams are listed in the top 20.

Doddridge County is back at No. 1 in Class A with a 7-0 record. Martinsburg, which has won 50 straight games, has taken over the top spot in Class AAA with an 8-0 mark.
