Bridgeport’s hopes to get back to the West Virginia girls basketball tournament in Charleston will begin a week from today as the No. 2 seed in the Class AA Region II, Section 1 tournament.

 

The second-seeded Indians will face off against No. 3 seed Elkins at the BHS gymnasium. Game time is 7 p.m.

 

Lincoln earned the No. 1 seed in the region. The Cougars will also play Wednesday at home at 7 p.m. against the winner of No. 4 Liberty and No. 5 Robert C. Byrd. The Mountaineers and the Eagles play Monday at 7 p.m. at Liberty.

 

If Bridgeport loses Wednesday, its season is over. If the Tribe wins, they will play at home if Lincoln loses and in Shinnston if the Cougars win. A loss in the sectional final does not mean the end of the season. Instead, the winner and the loser of the Section 1 side of Region II will play the winner and loser of the Section 2 side for the right to go to Charleston.

 

The Indians advanced to the first round last year. Unfortunately, the Indians lost a last-minute contest to Frankfort.
