On Wednesday, the Bridgeport Middle School Lady Braves traveled to play the Lincoln Middle School Wildcats on their home field.  It was a game that players on both sides indicated they were anxious about playing.  And both teams did not disappoint those in attendance as the Braves won 5-0.

The Lady Braves had a scoring opportunity in the opening inning.  With one out, Laiken Cook singled and Katelyn Stanley worked out a walk off of LMS starting pitcher Madison Andrick.  Andrick then induced BMS cleanup hitter Emily Riggs to hit into an inning ending double play.  Andrick then retired the next eight BMS batters in a row.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Madison Martin reached first on a BMS fielding error.  She then stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch.  Andrick then hit a slow roller to Starr Pope, the BMS starting pitcher, and Martin was retired attempting to score.

With two out in the fourth inning, the Lady Braves got on the scoreboard.  Riggs singled and then stole second base and moved to third on wild pitch.  The next batter, Pope, singled to score Riggs.

In the fifth inning, the Lady Braves added another run.  Emilee Henderson led off the inning with a stand up triple.  She scored on an infield ground out by Lauren Riffle.

The Lady Braves completed their scoring in the sixth inning.  Cook walked to start the BMS attack.  Stanley followed with a single and Riggs walked to load the bases.  Pope followed with a two-run scoring single.  One out later, Riffle tripled to send Riggs home with Lady Braves’ fifth run.

Pope, the game’s winning pitcher, pitched a complete game shutout.  In her seven innings of work, she allowed five hits, walked none, and struck out four.  The win improved Pope’s record to 3-0.

Andrick also pitched a complete game for the Wildcats.  In her seven innings of work, she allowed five runs on eight hits, walked four, and struck out four.

Today the BMS Lady Braves softball team was scheduled to travel to Buckhannon to play Buckhannon Upshur Middle School.  Due to the inclement weather, the game has been canceled.  A rescheduled date has not yet been determined.

The Lady Braves return to action on Monday when they travel to Morgantown and take on Westwood Middle School.  Game time set for 6 p.m.
