Last month, Bridgeport Middle School captured the Harrison County Middle School championship in girls basketball by toppling Washington Irving in a contest at Lincoln High School by a 39-29 score.

The Braves were the top seed in the tournament and finished the year 16-2 overall. BMS went 8-0 against Harrison County competition.

In the title game, Gabby Reep led the way with 19 points, while Eowyn Knapp added nine, Alexa Martin finished with seven and Alexis Bombardiere had five. Avery Childers led Washington Irving with 23 points.

This championship game wraps up a great three-year stretch with that 8th grade group. As sixth graders (2016-17) and as jayvee players, the team went 9-3 and won the junior varsity tournament. In seventh grade, they were part of a team in 2017-18 that finished 17-2 and won the country crown with a win against Lincoln. In the last two years, the varsity record for the group is 33-4 with a perfect 18-0 mark against county foes.

The future looks promising for BMS who return several talented 7th graders. Also, the junior varsity squad finished 14-1 this season.
