Mason Williams led the Indians at Monday's Big 10 Golf Tournament held at Bel Meadow Country Club. Williams, a Bridgeport High School senior, shot a par 72 to earn low medalist. Fairmont Senior's Clark Craig wound up in second place, shooting a 75.

As a team, the Tribe captured third place with a collective 367.

Sophomore Matt Aman shot an 85 and Trevor Pandher shot a 104. Cooper Hineman and Brayden Lesher both shot 106 and Josh Messe finished with 110.

Coach Fred Wilhelm said he's been pleased with his team this season.

"We've had a great year so far," he said. "Mason is playing as well as anyone in high school can and Aman is doing a super job for only being a sophomore."
Williams and Aman are consecutive leaders, with Lesher in the three spot.

"He's been up and down, but we'll take the good with the bad," Wilhelm said.

Battling for the fourth spot in Monday's regional tournament are Josh Messe and Trevor.

"We'll be down to four players and those two are fighting it out neck in neck," Wilhelm said. "We have a match Thursday that will determine that fourth spot."

Going into today's tournament, Wilhelm said the team to beat was Fairmont Senior. He was right. The Polar Bears won their second consecutive Big 10 with a team score of 332; Craig leading the way.

Preston County finished second with 365, edging out the Indians by just two strokes.

Also playing were North Marion, Elkins, East Fairmont, Grafton, Lewis County, Lincoln, Robert C. Byrd, Philip Barbour, Liberty and Buckhannon; the latter two teams not having enough players to qualify in team standings.

Williams was named co-conference player of the year; sharing the coveted honor with Buckhannon-Upshur's Christian McKisic. Williams was also named to the Big 10 All-Tournament team.
