It appears former West Virginia University standout Joe Mazzulla's run as coach at Fairmont State University will be a short one. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Twitter that Mazzulla will be a new assistant coach in the NBA.

The report came via Twitter. It says that Mazzulla, who played initially for John Beilein and then Bob Huggins at WVU, will be an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics. The Celtics are familiar with Mazzulla who was an assistant for their G League team, the Main Red Claws, prior to his stint in Marion County.

Wajnarowski's Tweet read as follows:

"The Celtics are hiring Fairmont (WV) State coach Joe Mazzulla as an assistant coach, league sources tell ESPN. Mazzulla made a strong impression with Celtics G League staff before returning to college two years ago. He played for John Beilein at WVU."

Mazzulla will replace assistant Micah Shrewsberry on  Coach Brad Stevens staff. Shrewsberry is now coaching  left the team to join the Purdue Boilermakers of the Big 10 Conference.
