West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons has announced the 2015-16 women’s basketball non-conference schedule.

WVU is set to play 13 regular season non-conference games and will participate in two tournaments. The Mountaineers are playing six games and one exhibition in the friendly confines of the WVU Coliseum.

“This non-conference schedule provides a challenge that we’ll need for our young team this year,” said coach Mike Carey. “We are very excited to play quality competition that will help us prepare for Big 12 play. Our team is excited to get back on the floor, and we look forward to the challenge ahead.”

The Mountaineers open the season with the annual Haunted Hoops game presented by Coke Zero on Saturday, October 31. The Halloween themed exhibition will take place against in-state foe Shepherd.

Officially, the season tips on Saturday, November 14, when West Virginia welcomes Delaware State. The Mountaineers then host Coppin State on Monday, November 16.

West Virginia participates in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Challenge on November 22-24, with games against host Gonzaga (November 22), USC (November 23) and Grand Canyon (November 24). The team closes out the four-game classic with a contest versus Yale at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on Sunday, November 29.

Morehead State and Fairleigh Dickinson visit the WVU Coliseum on Wednesday, December 2 and Sunday, December 6, respectively. The Mountaineers then face Marshall in the annual Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic on Saturday, December 12, at the Charleston Civic Center.

Four days later, West Virginia hosts Longwood for the first time since 2010, with a matchup on Wednesday, December 16.

The Mountaineers partake in the second annual Florida Sunshine Tournament on Sunday and Monday, December 20-21, in Winter Park, Florida. West Virginia will play James Madison (December 20) and Indiana (December 21) at Worden Arena on the campus of Rollins College.

West Virginia closes out the non-conference slate in Morgantown versus Elon on Monday, December 28.

The Big 12 portion of the schedule will be announced later this summer.
