NFL Draft Standout, Former WVU Wide Receiver Mario Alford Doing Meet & Greet at Meadowbrook Mall

By Julie Perine on April 17, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It’s been a couple years since Collectibles Etc. has hosted a WVU athlete meet and greet at Meadowbrook Mall. Hopefully, the chance to meet “Super” Mario Alford will be worth the wait.

After playing wide receiver for the Mountaineers in 2013 and 2014 and catching the eye of some impressed NFL scouts, Alford will be at Meadowbrook Mall 2-4 p.m. Sat., April 18.

Named one of the top five undersized wide receivers in the 2015 NFL draft, Alford is brought to Bridgeport by Chad Rogers of Collectibles Etc. Based in Cross Lanes, Rogers hosts similar events at Charleston Town Center Mall on a regular basis. He said he is glad to once again bring one of WVU’s finest to the Bridgeport area. In 2013, Collectibles Etc. hosted meet and greet events with Tavon Austin and Steadman Bailey.

“This is the first time in two years. We had something scheduled, but they were doing the mall renovations, so we had to postpone,” he said. “We’re hoping this events does well, because we’re also working with Kevin White and Juwan Staten and we want to be able to bring those fellows in next.”

For the April 18 event, Collectibles Etc. is partnering with Performance Chevrolet, out of Elkins and Parsons.

“Also known as Truck Country, Performance knows that the West Virginia way of life is infused with gold and blue and is glad to bring the players and the fans closer together,” Rogers said.

Those who would like to meet Alford are welcome to be at Center Court, Meadowbrook Mall between 2 and 4 p.m. There is a cost associated with pictures and/or autographs. The cost for an 8” by 10” photo – printed on the spot – is $20. Autographs are also $20 each. Fans can bring their own WVU items to be autographed or purchase them through Collectibles Etc. Also available for $50 are platinum VIP packages, which include two autographs and a photo op, Rogers said. They can be purchased at http://shop.collectiblesetcwv.com or calling 304-776-0020. Those packages are available on a limited basis.

A portion of Saturday’s proceeds will benefit WVU Children’s Hospital.  Also affiliated with the event are Krystain Leonard and Dakota Swiger. Leonard’s book, “Shining S.C.A.R.S” will be available for purchase, a portion of those proceeds also benefiting WVU Children’s Hospital.
