Going into the April 4 match against Lincoln High School, Coach Dan Oliveto said he expected to face a competitive team but that if the Indians did what they were supposed to do, they should be able to pull out the win. Such was the case. Played at Bridgeport Country Club, the match resulted in a 7-0 win for the boys and a 4-3 win for the girls.

Gaining victories for the boys were Bryce Williams, Brady Hillegas, John Wilfong, Nick Strogen, Ben Smith and Emery Smith in both singles and doubles play. For the Lady Indians, Taylor Abraham and Anna Wilfong claimed singles victories and teamed up for a doubles win. Also winning their doubles match were Allie Lamm and Leigh Hornor.

The next Tribe victory was against North Marion on April 9 as Williams, Hillegas, Wilfong, Strogen, Smith and Smith won singles and doubles matches, resulting in a 7-0 score. The girls suffered only one loss. The 6-1 win included winning singles matches by Abraham, Lamm, Hornor and Wilfong with teams of Abraham/Wilfong and Olivia Rush/Lamm claiming doubles victories.

On April 11, BHS took on Grafton High School, accumulating 7-0 victories for both the boys and girls. Singles and doubles winners were Abraham, Lamm, Hornor, Wilfong, Paige Rice and Caroline Furby. For the boys, Williams, Hillegas, Wilfong, Strogen, Smith and Smith all claimed singles and doubles matches.

This past Monday, the teams racked up victories against Lewis County. The boys walked away with a 6-1 win and the girls won 5-2. Williams, Wilfong and Strogen won their singles matches and the teams of Williams/Hillegas, Wilfong/Strogen and Smith/Smith claiming doubles victories. Winning singles matches for the Lady Indians were Abraham, Lamm and Wilfong and teaming up for doubles victories were Abraham/Wilfong and Lamm/Hornor.

Recent wet weather resulted in cancellations with Philip Barbour, Notre Dame and Liberty. Those matches will be rescheduled, Oliveto said.

In Big 10, BHS stands 6-0 for both boys and girls. Regionally, boys and girls are both 4-0. Both teams’ sole loss of the year was the first match of the season, during which they fell to Morgantown High School.
