Pappas Picks Up Another Top 10 Finish in Belpre; BHS XC Teams in Bearcat Invitational Saturday

Senior standout Kaitlin Pappas had another strong showing for the Bridgeport High School girls cross country team at last Saturday’s Belpre Invitational in Belpre, Ohio.

A total of 128 girls competed in the race. Morgantown won the team title. Sophia Szolosi from Athens (Ohio) had the top individual time at 18:46.64. Morgantown’s Amelia Summers was the top West Virginia finishers at 19:04.89.
The BHS girls finished seventh in the team standings.
Also for the Indians, Abigale Stewart was 52nd overall with a time of 23:55.11.
Mikaela DeMoss and Madison Looker finished 64th and 65th, respectively. DeMoss had a time of 24:45.88 and Looker crossed the finish line at 24:48.38.
Rounding out the results that went to toward the team points was a 70th place overall finish for Sara Rexroad at 24:55.25.
Five more BHS girls competed in the race in Victoria Vash (78th overall at 25:23.23), Natalie Wagner (94th overall at 26:27.37), Brea Holt (95th overall at 26:32.53), Kylie Berry (107th overall at 28:13.98) and Payton Janssen (113th overall at 29:17.50).
For the BHS boys, Troy Zorick had the best finish, coming in at 23rd overall with a time of 17:23.59.
Lancaster (Pa.) won the team title and had the top three individuals with a trio of brothers, Isaiah Lanoy (first at 16:03.23), Kaiden Lanoy (second at 16:03.49) and Trevor Lanoy (third at 16:05.51).
Wheeling Park’s Jonah Nizami was the top West Virginia runner with a sixth-place time of 16:24.57.
BHS finished 12th in the team standings. A total of 188 runners competed in the boys race.
After Zorick, BHS received points from William Northey, who was 94th overall at 20:21.42, Ethan Smell, who was 97th overall at 20:29.33, Quentin Collier, who was 115th overall at 21:06.48 and Jackson Holtz, who was 119th overall at 21:22.82.
Also competing for the Indians were Colton Reed (126th overall at 21:34.78) and Andrew Matlock (145th overall at 22:12.21).
The BHS cross country teams return to action at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Bearcat Invitational at West Taylor Middle School.
